Tax Tip: How Will Tax Changes in the Big Bill Affect You?

Wondering about how the Big Bill might affect you personally? Here are ways you can save money when you support our work to protect Montana forever:

  • In 2026, everyone, even the 91% of us who take the standard deduction, can get a tax deduction for giving cash to the causes you care about - up to $1,000 if you’re single and $2,000 for couples. So be sure to keep those receipts starting in January!
  • If you are in the highest tax bracket, 2025 is a great year to make a big gift because you can deduct 37% of your charitable contributions. In 2026 you will only be able to deduct 35%. You might even consider “bunching” your gifts - instead of donating annually over the next three years, triple your gift this year!
  • Now is also an excellent time to create a Donor-Advised Fund - you’ll get a tax deduction when you set it up, the funds are invested for tax-free growth, and you can make grants to your favorite nonprofits over whatever timeline works best for you. You can even hand it down to your kids! Learn more about Donor-Advised Funds.
